About Dr Rawal

Dr Rawal’s wonderfully diverse medical career, started with an MB BS from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London in 1990. His learning journey from there has earned him a Diploma in Remote Healthcare, Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Diplomas in Clinical Hypnotherapy and in Management.

After qualifying, Dr Rawal spent two years as a Medical Officer in Antarctica, managing primary care, emergency trauma, and even operating the Recompression Chamber for dive-related activities. This sparked a love of adventure and the sea and, soon after his return to the UK, Dr Rawal joined the Royal Navy and served for over fifteen years, five of which were with the Royal Marines as the Senior Medical Advisor to the Brigade Headquarters.

On leaving military life, he moved to Gibraltar and took up a position in the A&E Department of St Bernard’s Hospital, before returning to his specialisation of General Practice. A number of managerial roles followed including Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director of Primary Care, where Dr Rawal was responsible for managing the Primary Care Centre, implementing reforms, and introducing new services to enhance healthcare delivery. His contributions extended to legalising medicinal cannabis, setting up a Sexual Health and Family Planning service, and overseeing the construction of a new Primary Care Centre and Children’s Health Centre.

In late 2019 Dr Rawal took up the position of Medical Director to the Gibraltar Health Authority, unaware of what was around the corner! By early 2020 he was playing a pivotal role in leading and managing the COVID-19 pandemic medical effort, while appearing regularly on our televisions on the daily COVID-19 press conferences.

A passionate advocate of health and wellbeing, Dr Rawal also practices a number of alternative and preventative therapies, including Ayurvedic and herbal medicine, Reiki, Hypnotherapy and in particular Pranic Healing to complement a patient’s treatment and help them return to health and fitness.

Outside the realm of medicine, he constantly displays his commitment to wellbeing and balance. He is a mountaineer, windsurfer, surfer, snowboarder, swimmer, and Tai Chi practitioner. Additionally, he has ventured into the world of music and after achieving Grade 5 theory and practical in classical guitar, is now learning, albeit slowly, flamenco guitar
